Grand Isle is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 518 at the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.2 square miles (91 km2), of which, 34.3 square miles (89 km2) of it is land and 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2) of it (2.53%) is water.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 518 people, 218 households, and 161 families residing in the town. The population density was 15.1 people per square mile (5.8/km²). There were 268 housing units at an average density of 7.8 per square mile (3.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.84% White, 0.39% Native American, 0.19% Asian, and 0.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.
There were 218 households out of which 23.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.3% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.7% were non-families. 22.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.72.
In the town the population was spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 17.6% from 25 to 44, 37.6% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males.
